About Weather Tools

See current conditions with Live Weather, plan ahead with the 7-Day Forecast, and know when the air is safe with the Air Quality (AQI) tool. Forecasts are estimates from a weather service, and they get less reliable the further ahead you look.

Weather data comes from a weather provider and updates regularly. Only the city or location you search is sent to fetch it.

How to read a forecast honestly

A seven-day forecast is not seven equally reliable days. Tomorrow is roughly 90% accurate and day seven around 50–60% for precipitation, with temperature holding up considerably better than rain at every range. Beyond about ten days, forecasts converge on seasonal averages — not because of insufficient computing power, but because small differences in initial atmospheric conditions grow exponentially, placing a theoretical ceiling around two weeks.

A ‘40% chance of rain’ means measurable precipitation is 40% likely at any given point in the area during the period. It says nothing about intensity or duration, and it means rain on roughly four of every ten such days — the six dry days are not forecast failures.

Why the reading differs from your window

Official temperatures are measured in ventilated shade about 1.5 metres above ground, often at an airport some distance away. City centres run 2–5 °C warmer than surrounding countryside, and a thermometer in sunlight reads several degrees high. Dew point is a better comfort measure than relative humidity, because the same humidity percentage feels entirely different at different temperatures — above about 20 °C dew point, air feels sticky regardless of the reading.

Air quality

The AQI reports only the single worst pollutant at that moment, so a reading of 80 tells you the worst thing rather than the overall picture. National scales differ, so the same air produces different numbers in different countries, and WHO guideline values are considerably stricter than most national standards. PM2.5 matters most for health, since particles under 2.5 micrometres reach deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream. Only a well-fitted N95 or FFP2 respirator filters them; cloth and surgical masks do not.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How current is the weather data?

It is fetched live from a weather provider and reflects the latest available observation, typically refreshed hourly.

What is the AQI?

The Air Quality Index summarises pollutants into a single number and colour band showing how clean or polluted the air is.

Can I see weather for any city?

Yes. Search any city worldwide, or allow location detection to see conditions where you are.

How accurate is a seven-day forecast?

Roughly 50–60% for precipitation, against about 90% for tomorrow. Temperature is considerably more reliable than rain at every range, so treat day seven as a trend rather than a plan.

What does a 40% chance of rain mean?

That measurable precipitation is 40% likely at any given point in the forecast area during the period. It says nothing about intensity or duration, and it means rain on about four of every ten such days.

Why is the temperature different from my own thermometer?

Official readings are taken in ventilated shade about 1.5 m above ground, often at an airport some distance away. A sensor in sunlight or near a wall reads several degrees high, and city centres run warmer than surrounding areas.
