Free World & Location Lookup Tools
Look up countries, holidays, PIN codes, bank branches, sun times, and places worldwide with our free reference tools.
About World Tools
Get quick facts with Country Info, plan around Public Holidays, verify an address with Pincode Lookup or a branch with IFSC Bank Lookup, and find sunrise and sunset times for any spot.
These lookups pull from established open datasets and public registries, so the information is structured and reliable.
Reference data is less settled than it looks
Country population figures are projections between censuses, and different sources use different base years and methods — two reputable datasets can differ by millions for a large country. Land area varies depending on whether inland water is counted and how disputed territories are treated. Several countries have more than one capital: South Africa has three, each hosting a different branch of government. And there is no agreed answer to how many countries exist — the UN has 193 member states plus 2 observers, while several territories are recognised by some countries and not others.
The practical consequence is to record the reference year alongside any figure, and to treat a single-value field for currency or official language as a simplification. Many countries use a currency they do not issue, and most have several official languages nationally with more at regional level.
Indian postal and banking codes
An IFSC is exactly 11 characters: four letters for the bank, a zero, then six characters for the branch. The fifth character being zero is the quickest validity check. Bank mergers are the main reason a saved payee stops working, since amalgamated banks reassign branches and issue new codes. A PIN code's six digits encode postal region, sub-region, sorting district and delivery office, and a code starting with 9 belongs to the Army Postal Service.
Geocoding accuracy
Converting an address to coordinates returns different accuracy depending on the match type: metres for a rooftop match, but potentially kilometres for a postal or city centroid. Street interpolation — estimating a position along a road from its number range — is confidently placed and frequently wrong on long rural roads. Check the match type rather than assuming a coordinate is an address.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the lookup data come from?
From established open datasets and public registries for countries, postal codes, banks, and locations.
Can I search PIN codes by area name?
Yes. The Pincode Lookup lets you search by area or city name as well as by code.
Are these tools free?
Yes, all world and location lookup tools are free with no sign-up.
How many countries are there?
There is no single answer. The UN has 193 member states plus 2 observers, but several territories are recognised by some countries and not others, and others are self-governing without being sovereign.
Why do population figures differ between sources?
Most are projections between censuses using different base years and methods. For a large country the gap between two reputable datasets can run to millions, so always record the reference year.
Why did my saved bank payee stop working?
Most likely a bank merger. Amalgamated banks reassign branches and issue new IFSC codes, and the old ones stop working after a transition period.
